Its president, James Masing, said however that he personally felt GE14 would not take place this year but left it up to Prime Minister Najib Razak to fix the best possible date.
“I am not sure whether GE14 will be in 2017.
“It’s up to the Prime Minister and if he feels that 2017 is as good as 2018, he may call the election this year,” Masing was quoted by The Borneo Post as saying.
He said that whatever the case, PRS was ready to face the people.
“We are confident of retaining the six seats provided that discipline is maintained within the party, no sabotaging occurs and all BN parties help each other,” Masing said of the parliamentary seats of Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Julau, Kanowit, Hulu Rajang and Selangau.
Masing, who is also Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Industrial Development and Transportation added that GE14 was essentially a “watershed” for the BN administration and that if the ruling coalition won, opposition parties could “roll their mats and go home”.
He said this when asked to comment on a news report yesterday quoting Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as saying that the BN’s candidacy list was ready, although other reports said some BN parties had yet to submit theirs.
Either way, speculation is rife that GE14 will likely be held in November this year after the October tabling of the National 2018 Budget in Parliament, The Borneo Post said.
