
Abu Hashim Ismail was shot three times in the back and once in his left waist, right waist, chest and stomach by an unknown assailant, reported The Star.
The deceased was attached to the Bukit Aman’s secret societies, gambling and vice division (D7A), and was on pension leave when he was shot.
Medical officers from Hospital Jitra pronounced the 54-year-old detective dead at the scene of the incident.
Abu Hashim’s body has been sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.
Police say the victim was chatting with his acquaintance while sitting in the porch area of the house in Napoh when the shooting took place at 10.30pm.
The acquaintance, who witnessed the incident, is believed to be a relative of the victim and has now been detained to facilitate investigations.
Police say the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
