PETALING JAYA:
A 26-year-old scrap metal trader who crashed into a nasi kandar shop in Penang in June was fined RM10,000 by a magistrate’s court today for reckless driving.

M Kesava Rajah was found guilty of crashing his car into the restaurant in Chulia Street Ghaut at 11.16pm on June 6, The Star Online reported.

He was charged under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 and jail of not more than a year.

Kesava, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lenient sentence, the news portal said.

Prosecuting officer ASP Ahmad Padzli Ali urged the Penang court to mete out a deterrent sentence to ensure motorists took due care on the road.

He knocked into a motorcycle before ploughing into the restaurant. Luckily, no one was injured.

Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid ordered Kesava to pay the fine or in default serve six months’ jail. The motorist paid the fine.
