KUALA LUMPUR:
The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has blocked a Grab driver from registering for any e-hailing service pending the outcome of a police investigation into a claim that he assaulted a young passenger.

The restriction was also aimed at preventing the driver from switching to other e-hailing services as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers, SPAD said in a statement today.

“SPAD will not compromise in the matter of crime or misconduct by drivers and operators of land public transport.

“It will ensure that immediate action is taken to eradicate such misconduct,” it said.

The Grab driver was reported to have been arrested following a report from a 17-year-old student.

She told police the driver had picked her up from the Times Square shopping centre to send her to her Puchong home on Saturday afternoon.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat said the student suffered a broken nose after allegedly being hit by the driver over a misunderstanding between the two.

“The 30-year-old driver was arrested at 2.30am Sunday morning to assist in investigations,” Fadzil said, adding that the suspect would be remanded for four days until Wednesday.

“We have classified the case as voluntarily causing grievous hurt under Section 325 of the Penal Code.”
