The former minister took to Twitter to criticise the Umno Youth chief, especially for trying to dismiss the accusations made against Umno in the aftermath of the untoward incidents at the event held at the Dewan Raja Muda Musa.
“Dont be a nerd Khairy, I was there and you were not. It was clear this group of troublemakers had been briefed on what to say and do,” Zaid tweeted this morning.
He was responding to Khairy who tweeted: “What happened at #nothing2hide must be condemned and cannot be tolerated. Hope the police apprehend those responsible”.
This was followed by another tweet from Khairy, which simply said “Let the police investigate.”
Zaid, who joined DAP earlier this year, questioned the lack of responsibility on the part of Khairy as an Umno leader as well as youth and sports minister.
“Don’t you feel a lttle bit responsible for the kind of behaviour of these young Malays? Aren’t you the youth leader?
“I know you have to be like them if you want to be top dog one day, but if you don’t condemn such behaviour, many will not respect you,” Zaid said in two further messages on Twitter this morning.
Yesterday evening, chaos erupted at the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum when projectiles with a pungent chemical odour were hurled while former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was addressing the audience.
The venue was filled with smoke and punches were said to have been traded as PPBM members rushed onto the stage to protect the 92-year-old chairman of PPBM and Pakatan Harapan.
The incident occurred shortly after a participant questioned Mahathir about the Memali incident which saw 14 villagers and four policemen killed in a confrontation between the police and followers of a Muslim preacher in November 1985 in Kedah, when he was prime minister.
Mahathir had just finished answering the question when a projectile believed to have been laced with chemicals was thrown in his direction.
Moments later, flares could be seen being hurled across the hall, creating even more confusion in the smoke-filled hall.
