PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian and his four teammates won third place in the world’s most prestigious e-sports tournament, walking away with RM10.75 million in prize money.

“Ah Fu” Soon Chuan, who hails from Selangor, took part in The International 2017 Dota 2 as a member of China-based professional gaming team LGD Forever Young, news portal Malaysiakini reported.

The event, which was held in Seattle, saw 18 teams from North America, China, Europe, Southeast Asia, CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and South America taking part.

The RM10.75 million prize money, which represents 10% of the total prize pool of RM103 million, is subject to management fees and taxes by the US government.

However, the report said each player would still receive enough to become millionaires.

European squad Team Liquid took first place, bagging the lion’s share of RM43 million.

They won 3-0 against Chinese team Newbee.
