MACC to seize over 10 million tonnes of bauxite in Pahang

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Azam Baki says seizure is to prevent bauxite from being taken out of the stockpile area for business or other purposes.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will seize bauxite stockpiles of over 10 million tonnes in Pahang to facilitate its investigations into illegal bauxite mining in the state.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Azam Baki said the seizure was to prevent the bauxite from being taken out of the stockpile area for business or other purposes.

“The action to seize the bauxite will involve all bauxite stockpiles on government-owned and private-owned land in the state,” he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile, Azam said that after discussions with the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, the MACC proposed that the ministry review the issuance of Approval Permits (AP) to bauxite mining operators and revoke all APs issued earlier.

He said the MACC would also monitor the situation to prevent any export of bauxite at Kuantan Port.
