PETALING JAYA:
A teacher in Melaka suffered a fractured finger after she was hit with a chair by a 14-year-old student whom she had reprimanded for using abusive words in class.

In a report in The Star, Melaka Action Group for Parents in Education (Magpie) chairman Mak Chee Kin said he had been told by a relative of the teacher that the boy had called the teacher derogatory names such as “stupid”.

When the teacher asked him to stop using such words, the boy reportedly refused to listen and instead challenged her to hit him.

According to the relative, the teacher then slapped the student, who retaliated by swinging a chair at her.

The report said the teacher had made a police report following the incident which took place on Monday morning.

However, Mak said the school management had asked the teacher to withdraw her report.

Adding that the teacher was traumatised and no longer wished to return to the school, Mak asked why no action had been taken against the student.

In the report, he also said he would bring up the matter to the State Education Department.
