Of the number of completed units, only 934 successful applicants received their keys while the remaining units are still being processed, Sim told the media in Parliament today.
He said the figures were provided by minister in the prime minister’s department Shahidan Kassim in a written reply to a question in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The Barisan Nasional (BN) election manifesto in 2013 pledged priority to build one million affordable houses, including 500,000 PR1MA units.
“The reality is truly shocking. The people placed their hopes in the promise. The people waited a long time, gave their support to BN and believed they would get affordable housing,” he said.
However, the BN federal government lied to the voters, he added.
Shahidan, in his written reply, also said the PR1MA board of directors had approved 254,747 housing units throughout the country.
So far, he said, 136,685 units were under construction in all the states while the rest were at various stages of planning.
Sim said BN would not be able to fulfil its promise on building the affordable housing units based on its delivery record so far.
“The youths who are waiting for their units will not get them if they continue to rely on the government,” he said.
