The banner bearing Rihanna’s name was one of several others, that borrowed lyrics from popular songs featuring well-know international artistes, and hung at various spots in Lim’s constituency in a bid to mock the DAP leader.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament today, the MP said, “Banners were put up in my parliamentary constituency, Gelang Patah with the words: ‘Sorry, Uncle Kit Siang, we are not Rihanna, we don’t love the way you lied’.
“I must confess that I did not know who Rihanna was when I first saw the wording,” he said, taken from the song Love the Way You Lie by rapper Eminem, that features Rihanna singing the chorus.
He said however that those behind the banners were not concerned with who the “real liars” were such as those behind the 1MDB controversy, and the withdrawal of the amendment bill on unilateral conversions, among a string of other issues in the country.
“The masterminds behind the lies, fake news and false information are not concerned about these great issues… and dare not reveal their real identities, in their continuing agenda to distract Malaysians from the real issues of the people.”
“I have no time for them, whether in the past or in the future,” he said, calling those behind the lies “propagandists and cybertroopers”.
Apart from the banner mentioning Rihanna, others included lyrics from the song See You Again by US rapper Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth: “It’s been a long way without you my friend, so I’ll vote you out when I see you again”.
Another said, “You came in like a wrecking ball, all you ever did was break our hearts”, taken from the lyrics of the song Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.
