Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the state government was aware of the sultan’s concern for the RTS project.
“We, in the state government, are aware of his views and we support (him) and will inform the (federal) government of his views.
“The decision to implement the project is being made by the two countries and the line and other matters are being discussed,” he said after the launch of the business management office of Aegis Limited in Bandar Medini, here yesterday.
Khaled was commenting on the Johor Sultan’s comments made in an exclusive interview with a local English newspaper yesterday.
In the interview, Sultan Ibrahim was reported to have welcomed the RTS project but did not agree with the design of the curved tracks and the height of the elevated bridge which could reach 30 metres in the middle.
“At that height, the bridge will affect the city skyline along the Straits of Johor, while its height is not practical, sustainable, and its cost will potentially be high,” he said.
According to the report, Sultan Ibrahim is also expected to bring the matter up when he meets with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong next month.
The RTS project is expected to accommodate up to 10,000 passengers an hour between the Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru station and Woodlands station in Singapore.
