
Cheah Poh Kiat, 31, of Sungai Petani, Kedah, was charged with driving a white Volkswagen Polo car above the speed limit, driving under the influence and causing hurt to another motorist.
He was accused of committing the offence at 1.30am on July 22 at Km124.3 of the North-South Expressway.
Cheah was charged under Section 44 (1) (b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for having exceeding levels of alcohol in his breath, blood or urine while operating a car.
If convicted, he faces a minimum three years’ jail and/or a RM20,000 fine.
Magistrate Sri Pracha Nanthini Balabedha allowed bail at RM7,000 and the case was set for mention on Sept 6.

On July 23, it was reported that a driver of a Volkswagen Polo had headed northbound on the NSE towards Sungai Petani but made an abrupt U-turn, and proceeded to drive in the opposite direction.
Panic ensued as cars crashed into each other as they frantically tried to avoid the VW. One of the cars involved in the crash was a Lamborghini.
Police say seven victims, aged 20 to 50, from five cars were injured and received outpatient treatment at the Kepala Batas Hospital.
The VW driver suffered a broken right arm.
