A bomb, believed to be from World War 2, was found at a road construction site next to the Road Transport Department office in Jalan Kem Angkatan Tentera here today.

Sandakan district police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the old bomb was discovered at 9.10am by a construction worker who was digging the ground using a machine.

He said a team from the Sandakan police bomb disposal unit went to the site and upon checking, it was found to be an airdrop bomb weighing 226kg, measuring 130cm long and was still active.

Police would be guarding the site until the arrival of the Sabah contingent bomb disposal unit on Sunday to dispose of the bomb, he said.
