“What’s the problem with being similar to Star Trek?” the Permatang Pauh MP said with a smile when met at her Hari Raya open house here today.
The logo, unveiled at a press conference late Thursday night, features the word “harapan” (hope) in block letters with a vertical arrowhead-like pattern representing the “A” alphabet in the middle.
Wan Azizah said it conveyed the message that the opposition coalition would scale the mountain of hope, as indicated by the design, in wresting Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN).
“It is like a famous line from Star Trek. In the past, no one has been able to defeat BN,” she said, referring to the famous mission statement of the starship USS Enterprise from the series – “to boldly go where no man has gone before”.
PH had faced difficulty in its effort to find a suitable logo. In May, netizens heaped criticism over three shortlisted logos that had been proposed for being simplistic.
Two of these logos, in different colours, featured “harapan” in block letters under a basic design to represent rays, while the third had a “thumbs-up” illustration above the name “Pakatan Harapan”.
Meanwhile, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said the arrowhead-like design in the new logo could also be interpreted to mean movement in a positive direction.
“It is the direction in which we are taking the country out of the chaos that has been caused by prime minister Najib Razak,” he said.
Wan Azizah, who is also Parliamentary opposition leader, said the red background in the logo represented all the four component parties of DAP, Amanah, PKR and PPBM.
“We wanted something that would draw people’s attention. Red carries the meaning of bravery and also success,” she said.
According to Khalid, red was a colour common to all four parties.
“Orange (the official colour of Amanah) is derived from merging of red and yellow. In the PKR flag too there is some red,” he said.
The colour is also used as a background for PPBM’s logo and as the hue of the rocket figure in DAP’s party emblem.
No, no, no, say netizens to Pakatan Harapan’s 3 proposed logos
