LANGKAWI: The Langkawi SkyCab, an over 4,000-metre-long cable car system linking Oriental Village in Teluk Burau to the 708-metre-high Gunung Mat Chinchang here, has been listed as among the world’s top 10 cable car systems by an international travel website.

Smartertravel.com has placed it alongside Loen Skylift in Norway, CabriO Stanserhorn cable car (Switzerland) and Sugarloaf Mountain Bondinho (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), labelling it as among the leading 10 sites that give travellers incredible cable-car experience.

Its writer, Jamie Moore, described the ride on Langkawi SkyCab as “lifting travellers to dreamlike views of the legendary island”, which is located on the northwest coast of Malaysia near the Thailand border.

“At the top (is) a Malaysian landmark, the pedestrian SkyBridge which swoops over the untouched jungle and ranks among the world’s longest curved suspension bridges.”

The Langkawi SkyCab is one of only two cable car operations in Asia which have made it into the world’s top 10 list. The other is Ngong Ping 360 on Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
