KUALA LUMPUR:
The government will meet the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) to discuss proposals to improve the public service sector, including the proposal that the salaries of civil servants and pensions of retirees be raised by 3%.

Chief Secretary to the Government Ali Hamsa said the meeting would be held soon.

Ali was commenting on Cuepacs’ earlier statement which reportedly proposed that the matter be given due consideration by the government in the 2018 budget.

He was met by reporters after viewing preparations made at the linkway for pedestrians between KL Sentral and the National Museum Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) here today.

However, he pointed out that the government had automatically given a raise of 3% to civil servants who had reached the maximum salary structure for the past two or three years.

“In the past, upon reaching the maximum pay, civil servants have to wait for a promotion (for a salary raise) but now it is automatic… we have implemented it since 2014,” he said.
