Arau district police chief Supt Nanda Maarof said the suspects, aged between 16 and 26, were arrested at their homes in Arau and Kangar in connection with eight cases of snatch theft that occurred since early Ramadan.
“The suspects, included two brothers, aged 19 and 20, allegedly rode three motorcycles and targeted teenage girls as their victims during the snatch thefts committed between 7pm and 2am,” he said in a media conference at the Arau district police headquarters here today.
He said, however, no weapons were used in the snatch theft cases. All six suspects tested positive for drugs, including three who had previous criminal records.
Following the arrests, police seized five mobile phones, bank account books, personal identification documents and cash amounting to RM8,000 as well as two motorcycles believed to have been used in the snatch thefts.
