It will be an avenue for party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad to clarify issues raised by certain quarters, including claims about his family’s wealth.
The wing has asked Prime Minister Najib Razak to also attend the event to similarly answer issues relevant to himself that people may want to ask.
The event takes its name from the “Nothing2Hide” forum on June 5, 2015 where Najib was scheduled to address public queries but which was cancelled after Mahathir showed up to speak without invitation.
PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the new forum will be held within the next month.
He said it is being staged following a dare by one of PPBM Youth executive councillors Muhammad Hafiz Azhar, who wanted Mahathir to come forward and clarify issues related to the apparent wealth of his children.
“I believe if we succeed in organising a dialogue or forum with Mahathir and Najib, there would be no problems like that (cancellation of the 2015 forum) happening,” Syed Saddiq told a press conference here today.
Mahathir, who was then still a member of Umno, came to the “Nothing2Hide” forum as he had announced earlier, despite not being invited.
He spoke for about six minutes before he was forced to stop by police and pulled off stage.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar had then said the event was called off to preserve “public order”.
Hafiz had asked Mahathir to clear his name on the issue of his family’s alleged fortune and PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin’s relationship with a married woman. Muhyiddin had denied the allegation earlier, stating it was “baseless and malicious”.
He had said the two leaders needed to protect the good name and image of the party, and added that he was making the call in his personal capacity and not on behalf of the wing.
Syed Saddiq said he was disappointed with Hafiz as there were proper channels like the PPBM forum for him to pose his queries. “But he did not use such channels,” Syed Saddiq said.
“We will investigate Hafiz’s action first before undertaking any disciplinary measure.”
He added that a letter would be sent to Najib at the prime minister’s office tomorrow to invite him to participate in the forum.
