Kulim police chief Supt Nasir Jaafar said the victim, identified as Mohd Khairul Aizat Kamaruddin, 18, died at the scene in the 5.30am accident, Bernama reported.

“Khairul was driving a car from Kulim-Padang Serai while the ambulance was returning to Kulim Hospital with a victim of another accident at Taman Lagenda, Padang Serai.

“The ambulance was carrying four passengers, including three hospital employees, who were injured.

“They suffered broken arms and skull fractures in the collision and are now being treated at Kulim Hospital.”

NST Online said the injured were the ambulance driver, a hospital attendant, a female assistant medical officer, and the accident victim, who had already suffered multiple injuries.

It said Khairul was travelling home to Padang Serai from Kulim after having sahur (pre-dawn meal) with his friends.

His body was sent to Kulim Hospital for a post-mortem.
