Nazri-Guan Eng relationship is unlike Hadi-Umno’s, says DAP

The DAP's Syerleena Rashid says DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Umno supreme council member Nazri Abdul Aziz's relationship is strictly professional, not political.

PETALING JAYA: The DAP’s Syerleena Rashid has reminded PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad that Malaysians are not stupid and can see through his party’s “facade”.

She was commenting on news reports of Idris criticising Pakatan Harapan – specifically DAP – for practising double standards when it comes to having cordial ties with Umno leaders.

While he did not mention any names,it is believed that he had referred to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Umno supreme council member Nazri Abdul Aziz who are known to have a close relationship despite their political backgrounds.

The two even held hands during the launch of the Rainbow Skywalk in Penang last year.

On the other hand, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s presence at a function organised by the agriculture and agro-based industry ministry earlier this month raised suspicions over PAS-Umno cooperation.

Hadi and Umno minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek were also seen holding hands atop a boat during the programme.

Syerleena, however, said the two examples were like “comparing apples to oranges.”

“Both examples are taken way out of context and have very different circumstances,” she told FMT.

“Nazri attended (the Rainbow Skywalk in Penang) as Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi’s representative, who was not able to attend the launch. Lim Guan Eng was invited as penang chief minister.

“The relationship between Lim and Nazri is purely professional and not out to divide Malay Muslims or even destroy Malaysia’s chance for much needed socio-political reforms by discrediting the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

“There is no double standard and what is perceived is based on chronological facts and history. The past events have lead many to see PAS’ real intentions – deeply rooted political motives fuelled by a lot of bitterness targeted against DAP.”

Syerleena said what made it clear that PAS was aiding BN was the party’s “insistence” on creating three cornered fight scenarios where the general consensus was that that would be advantageous to the BN.

“PAS has every intention to be the spoiler by fielding candidates to split votes. By doing this, it is clear that they will be aiding BN.

“Malaysians are not stupid and can see through Idris’ lies and his party’s facade.

“There is an on-going witch hunt of political opposition leaders at the moment and the comments made by Idris Ahmad is evidence of this. As the general election draws closer, Idris should be focusing on pressing issues that can alleviate Malaysians from this socio-political quagmire and not get caught up in ‘holding hands and bumping bellies’.”
