Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the body of factory worker Tin Mar Moe, 28, was discovered sprawled on the ground by residents in the area before they contacted the police at 8pm.
“The victim was found on the ground faced downwards and dressed in a blue shirt and black pants. It is believed the woman was returning home from work at a factory in the area.
“Closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage at the scene showed the victim had alighted from the factory bus at about 7.30pm, and a man was believed to have been waiting at the entrance to the hostel,” Nik Ros Azhan said here today.
He said the man was believed to have chased the victim with a knife and stabbed several parts of her body.
Nik Ros Azhan said the bus driver noticed the incident and when he came to the victim’s aid, the suspect fled.
“Preliminary examination of the victim’s body revealed six stab wounds and the police also found several items belonging to the victim,” he said.
He said a black bag was also found on the ground, believed to have fallen during a scuffle between the victim and suspect.
He said with the aid of the canine unit, the police tracked down a man, who is also a Vietnamese citizen, hiding in a ditch about 70 metres from where the victim was stabbed.
“The police also found a knife measuring 26cm used by the suspect, as well as the woman’s mobile phone,” he said, adding the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said further investigation into the motive for the attack was being carried out, adding that the 26-year-old man, who worked at the same factory as the woman, was being remanded to facilitate investigations.
