He says the police are investigating him over a Facebook posting on Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman and a corruption case related to the Sabah Water Department.

PETALING JAYA: Activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad, who wants to challenge Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman in the next state election, said he received a call from the police today on a new case initiated on him.

In a statement, he said he received the call at about 11.30am from an inspector from the Penampang police station to meet in Kota Kinabalu on June 7.

“I am not afraid of this,” he said of the prospect of being arrested and his mobile phone confiscated on that day.

He said he believed that his supporters and the people of the state stood behind him in his criticism against Musa and the Barisan Nasional (BN) state government.

Jufazli said the same officer had contacted him last month to make an appointment over an investigation regarding his Facebook posting titled “How much Musa Aman paid MACC to close the corruption case of the Sabah Water Department?”

He said the posting had gone viral. He added that he was shocked by the latest police instruction.

He said based on his lawyer’s advice, the police should conduct an investigation first and arrest later if any evidence of wrongdoing is found.

On Jan 10, Jufazli told FMT that he had been accosted by three men at a restaurant in Sandakan who threatened that something bad would befall him if he continued to speak about a certain VIP.

In December last year, he announced that he would contest for the Sibuga state seat, currently held by Musa.

On Nov 9, he was arrested at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur and investigated for slander, sedition and offences under the Communications and Multimedia Act. He was detained until Nov 15.

Jufazli said he has not been prosecuted despite having been locked up in the Jinjang police station in Kuala Lumpur and Tawau station in Sabah.

The activist, from Semporna, is a vocal critic of the Sabah government, especially with the recent corruption case involving the state’s water department.

A former director of the department and two others have been charged with money laundering involving a total of RM61.48 million. The case will begin on July 4.
