“It is like living in a third world country,” said Zulhisham Ayob, who lives in an area in Shah Alam that faces frequent interruptions of water supply.
He said Air Selangor should be able to follow the timeline for repairs and restoration that it gives to the public prior to any cut.
“I called them and they couldn’t even provide me with the exact time supply would be restored,” he told FMT.
He claimed there were instances when supply was restored several hours after the promised time.
He said the problem had been recurring for the past four to five years, with disruptions taking place every two months or so.
In October last year, Air Selangor took over from Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) and Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd as the provider of water supply services to consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
A food vendor who does business in the area where Zulhisham lives also complained about the frequency of water cuts.
Identifying herself only as Suriyati, she said: “During the cuts, my sister and I have to carry water from another area so that we can continue our business for the day.”
She claimed Air Selangor’s website usually did not give the the exact time supply would be restored.
Zailani, a drinks vendor for the past 20 years, said he and many others like him had to close shop once every two months.
A Puchong resident, Magendran Ramakrishnan, said Air Selangor usually took such a long time to restore supply that he was forced to use water from the swimming pool at his condominium.
He said the water he kept as reserve in his home was not enough to accommodate his family’s needs.
In September last year, Bandar Puchong was struck by a water supply interruption that lasted six days.
Mohd Fadhil Daud of Sungai Buloh also complained about the length of time taken to restore supply.
“Air Selangor has to be more efficient,” he said.
Last month, several areas in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya experienced water cuts following a major pipe burst in Sungai Buloh.
Repair works were initially estimated to take 48 hours. However, supply was restored only three days later.
