After lodging a police report at Ampang Jaya district police headquarters today, Syed Rosli Jamalullail told reporters that he is concerned over his and his family members’ safety.
In his report, Syed Rosli alleged that an Umno member named Saiful Ismail Saaya had called him on March 7, 2016, to alert him to the threat he faced from “Khairy’s men” over his (Syed Rosli) intention to file a report with the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) against Khairy.
“Saiful had informed me that my life was in danger as well as my family’s, too,” Syed Rosli had written in his police report.
“Of late, I feel that I am being watched and so are my family members.
“I have lodged this report today, so the authorities can investigate in case something happens to me or any of my family members,” he said, admitting that he had not had the feeling of being followed in the previous 13 months since getting that fateful phone call.
On March 6 last year, Syed Rosli had wanted to file a complaint with the MACC, over the source of funds used by Khairy, who is Umno Youth chief, to sponsor a RM1.4 million “umrah” package for 191 Umno Youth division leaders.
However, on the day, Syed Rosli backed out from filing the report, citing health reasons.
Subsequently, Amanah Youth had lodged the report with MACC, calling for a probe on where Khairy had obtained funds for the Umno youth wing division leaders’ umrah trip.
Syed Rosli also denied he had new information against Khairy, that could be a reason for the feeling of being followed recently. He said he just feels insecure over the warning from last year and was mentally affected by the possible threat to his life.
Meanwhile, Khairy called Syed Rosli “crazy” for filing the police report today with such wild allegations. He added that the latter had a personal agenda in doing so.
Syed Rosli is Pandan Umno Youth’s Bandar Cempaka branch information chief.
This is not the first time that Syed Rosli has made public such perceived threats against his life.
Last June, he had claimed that he received death threats from Umno members after he announced his decision to contest as an independent candidate in the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election.
He added the threats came about as many were unhappy with his intention to contest in the June by-election, as it would spoil Barisan Nasional’s chances to defend the seat.
The by-election was called after former Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad was killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak in May last year, shortly before the Sarawak state elections.
Subsequently Wan Mohammad’s widow, Mastura Mohd Yazid won with a majority of 6,969 votes against PAS’ candidate Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Amanah’s Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
