Speaking at the launch of the project, Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh said the online reporting system for non-crime related reports was initiated after the system was found to be viable following the success of a pilot project at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail station.
He said the public could now lodge and print reports from the comfort of their own homes, but only reports which did not have any element of crime, reported the New Straits Times today.
“We decided to launch the system because it was found that the vast majority of reports filed in the city involved no element of crime,” Amar said.
He said those who had lost important documents, such as MyKad, passports and driving licences, provided these are not stolen, could use the e-reporting system.
“Those who wish to use the system must register first so that we can verify their identities,” he said, adding that the system was open to only Malaysians aged 18 and above.
Amar also launched the Sistem Semakan Online (SSO) facility which allowed the public to check on the progress of investigations into any report they had lodged.
He said to access the SSO one must register first via the URL sso.rmp.gov.my.
