“I want to advise public servants to protect the good name of the civil service, be steadfast in rejecting corruption and resolute in opposing abuse of power that could cause leakage of state revenue,” he said in opening the 5th session of the 13th State Legislative Assembly here today.
Rahman evoked the example of Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon), who spurned bribes, as an inspiration for civil servants in carrying out their duties.
“In fact, I hope public servants can be brave to report irresponsible people who try to bribe them in Penang,” he said.
The governor supported the state government’s measures to combat corruption in the civil service by dealing strictly with those found guilty.
“I fully support firm action taken on those found guilty of corruption, including termination of service,” he said.
Earlier, Rahman inspected a 102-man police guard of honour.
The assembly was adjourned to Monday morning and is expected to sit until Friday.
