He said, technically, PAS members should resign from their posts in Selangor, adding that this was the view of his party, which is a component in PH.
Referring to the situation in Kelantan, Khalid said he believed there was no need for PKR members to resign from positions they held in the PAS-controlled state administration.
“If PKR remains in the Kelantan government, it is not weird because PKR did not cut its ties with PAS.
“But PAS has cut ties with PKR in Selangor while still maintaining a connection – now that is weird,” said Khalid during a press conference today.
The PAS muktamar (general assembly) voted at the end of last month to sever all political cooperation with PKR after blaming it for breaching agreements with the Islamist party.
The decision was endorsed by PAS’ syura council, the party’s highest policy-making body, last week.
However, no directive was issued by the party ordering its members holding positions in the Selangor state administration to vacate them, and they have remained in place, including the three in the state executive council.
PH’s chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah told reporters at the PKR headquarters that the PKR leadership would hold a meeting tonight to review the situation in Selangor.
“They have discussed the issue, but they have not made any decision. They can’t make any decision as it is not their call,” he said. “We will have to wait for the outcome of the discussion by PKR.”
Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan stated that the three PAS excos would not resign as they were appointed by the sultan.
PAS exco Iskandar Abdul Samad had also said Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had never directed him to step down from his position.
