PETALING JAYA:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has successfully undergone surgery for a heart valve replacement at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

In a statement today, IJN said Hadi had undergone the three-hour surgery earlier this morning, which progressed according to plan. His vital parameters are reportedly stable, it added.

Last year, Hadi was admitted to IJN on two separate occasions, first in January and next in early October.

No specific reason was given for the six-day stay at the hospital in October but a spokesman for PAS said Hadi was admitted to receive follow-up treatment.

Today, IJN said Hadi had been experiencing worsening symptoms due to a leaking heart valve. This led doctors to advise a planned heart valve surgery.

The hospital said Hadi is being warded at IJN’s intensive care unit (ICU), where his condition will be observed for the next few days, according to routine post-heart surgery procedures.

“The next 48 hours is the crucial period in his post-operative care, and he will be under close observation in the ICU by a team of doctors and nurses,” it said.

IJN added that Hadi had been advised against receiving any visitors, with the exception of immediate family members.
