KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) is waiting for official notification from Sarawak state legislative assembly Speaker Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar on the status of Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon who was disqualified today.
EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah said for the moment, the commission only knew about the disqualification of the DAP elected representative, who allegedly had dual citizenship, from the mass media.
Hashim said the EC would only take further action on the matter after receiving official notification, he said in a statement today.
The Sarawak state assembly today disqualified Ting as assemblyman for Pujut at the state assembly sitting after Sarawak Second Finance Minister Wong Soon Koh tabled a resolution to disqualify him.
