PUTRAJAYA:
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad is satisfied with the commission’s performance during his eight months at the helm and wants to introduce new initiatives.

Among the moves is the setting up of a group (caucus) comprising interested parties in the effort to combat corruption and abuse of power.

He said this at the first meeting of the Anti-Corruption Media Caucus (ACMC), set up to boost co-operation between the media and the MACC in fighting corruption and abuse of power.

The team comprised senior editors of print and electronic media as well as senior officers of the MACC.

Other than recruiting the media as strategic partners, another similar group has been set up by the MACC to eradicate corruption and abuse of power related to the environment, such as illegal logging and mining.

Dzulkifli said other initiatives to be implemented by the MACC was the launching of the Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement (Gerah), which is an attempt to trigger a social revolution among the people to reject corruption and abuse of power.

He said corruption took place at all levels and transcended race and political parties.

Dzulkifli, who prior to this, pledged to eradicate corruption by 2020, was confident his aspiration could be achieved with the co-operation of everybody.

“I want society to stand up against corruption and misconduct,” he said.

Dzulkifli was appointed to the post to replace Abu Kassim Mohamed on Aug 1, 2016.
