PETALING JAYA:
A routine journey from Johor Bahru back to her hometown of Batu Pahat proved to be quite harrowing for a young woman when she was allegedly molested in the bus.

Taking the bus from the Larkin bus station, the woman who gave her name as Xin Yan, said she first felt someone grab her waist and even grope above her thighs from the seat behind.

“I looked behind and saw a man who quickly turned to look the other way,” Xin Yan, 21, had posted on her Facebook page, shortly after the incident which took place on Sunday evening.

That’s when she also took a photo of the alleged molester.

The woman, who works in Singapore, then writes that she fell asleep but was jolted awake when she felt a hand touching her breast.

“I was very shocked to see the man who was behind me earlier now seated next to me.

“He made a quick dash back to his original seat. But I got up and confronted him, shouting ‘you buat apa?’ (‘what are you doing?’), and he acted like nothing happened and pretended to adjust the air condition vent above him,” she said.

Xin Yan promptly told the bus driver about the incident and made sure the bus driver would not let the alleged molester out at any point.

The man then attempted to get off the bus at the Ayer Hitam bus stop but was detained by other passengers who ordered him to remain seated, according to Xin Yan’s post on FB.

“However, when a passenger got down from the bus at Parit Raja, in Batu Pahat, the man managed to escape from the vehicle’s emergency exit,” she said, adding that a few passengers gave chase and caught him with the help of other members of the public at the bus stop.

They took him to the Parit Raja police station where Xin Yan also lodged a report.

She ended her FB post by advising women to be cautious and never stay silent when faced with a predicament similar to hers.

“If you ever have a similar experience as mine, do not be afraid of speaking out.

“Let the people in the bus know what is happening, so that there are extra eyes helping you keep watch over the alleged perpetrator,” Xin Yan said, adding that sexual assault should not be treated as a small issue.
