PETALING JAYA: Two former top committee members of a mosque in Malacca were detained by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers for investigations into the sale of mosque land five years ago.
The land deal is believed to have netted the two men a total of RM116,000.
They were then serving as the mosque’s chairman and secretary.
MACC sources said the suspects had disposed of a piece of tanah wakaf land in Malacca, belonging to the mosque, to a non-Muslim in 2012 for personal gain.
Non-Muslims are not allowed to acquire such plots of land near a prime area.
Both suspects were detained when summoned to the MACC office in Malacca to have their statements recorded today.
MACC director of investigations Simi Abd Ghani confirmed the arrests.
