Council secretary Nik Mohamad Zawawi Salleh said a speedy decision would remove any confusion or questions among party members regarding the relationship of the two political allies which have been strained recently over a number of issues.
“The motion (to cut ties with PKR) is a very grave one,” he said in his winding-up speech on the last day of the muktamar.
Nik Zawawi said whatever the final decision, all PAS members must adhere to it and the directive of party president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Yesterday, as expected, the 63rd PAS muktamar approved the motion to break off political cooperation with PKR.
The motion had already been passed by the party’s ulama and youth wings and 21 divisions.
In tabling the motion at the main muktamar, Dewan Ulama delegate Zulkifli Ismail accused PKR of breaching “conditions” of their political cooperation by supporting PAS’ splinter party Amanah, opposing PAS in two recent by-elections and appearing to work with DAP to block a motion tabled by Hadi to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act in the Dewan Rakyat.
PKR was also alleged to have shown disrespect towards PAS and failed to demonstrate comradeship.
