MALACCA: Police have arrested two locals yesterday on suspicion of assaulting their three Indonesian housemaids.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said both suspects, a woman in her 50s and her son in his 20s, were remanded for three days from yesterday.

“The two suspects will be investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said the police would investigate the case further, including taking statements from the suspects and victims.

Local newspapers today reported the three Indonesian maids, who could no longer stand being abused, managed to escape from the house in Bukit Katil here and asked for help from the public.

The three maids claimed they were frequently beaten and their salaries allegedly kept by their employer.
