At the PAS Youth muktamar here today, Muhamad Hafiz Alias Al-Baghoni, a Penang PAS Youth exco, also trained his guns on the DAP-led Penang government and Penang religious affairs exco Abdul Malik Abu Kassim.
Hitting out at land reclamation in Penang, Hafiz said the Penang Southern Reclamation (PSR) project threatened the livelihoods of fishermen in the area.
The state government had proposed the reclamation of three islands to the south of Penang to help finance the much debated public transport system and new roads to alleviate traffic.
“Over 300 fishermen have lost their source of income. We aren’t against development, but don’t ignore the problems faced by the people.
“DAP is busy going around the country to save Malaysia. They campaign to save Malaysia, but who is going to save Penang? Land, jobs, who will save us?”
He also hit out at Abdul Malik for being “silent” and afraid to speak up on issues affecting Islam in the state.
Previously, PAS alleged that the Penang government had meddled in the fatwa committee, saying a few fatwas were put on hold as a result.
Subsequently, PAS claimed that all fatwas had to go through the state executive council for approval, although the council itself said fatwas were only brought to their attention as a form of notification.
But Abdul Malik had said then that voicing out the state government’s concerns over a fatwa did not equate to meddling.
Hafiz also alleged that the DAP and PKR had not protected the interests of Islam in Penang, which was why almost all divisions wanted PAS to cut ties with PKR.
He said the Penang PAS commissioner had hinted that Penang PAS would contest all state seats in the next general election (GE14).
Previously, he said, PAS had contested in six state and two parliamentary constituencies in Penang.
“We are all ready in Penang,” he said.
There are 40 seats in the Penang state assembly. DAP holds 19 seats and PKR 10, while Barisan Nasional also holds 10. PAS only holds one seat.
Yesterday, PAS’ Dewan Ulama passed a motion on ending political cooperation with PKR as, it said, the party had contravened conditions of its political cooperation.
The Syura Council – PAS’ highest decision-making body – will make a final decision on the matter.
