Leave Selangor once you’re done with us, PKR tells PAS

PETALING JAYA:
PKR today said it would accept any decision made at the PAS muktamar to sever ties with the party, but added that it should be followed up by PAS excos in Selangor vacating their posts.

“It is more proper that any such decision is not dragged on but quickly finalised, because if PAS confirms they want to end their political cooperation with PKR , the dignified and respectable thing to do is for all PAS members in the Selangor administration to resign once the decision is finalised,” said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said it was not logical for PAS, which had already cut ties with DAP, to remain part of the Selangor government following the decision.

Yesterday, PAS’ Dewan Ulama unanimously passed a motion from the wing’s Negeri Sembilan and Perak delegates, to end “tahaluf siyasi”, the term PAS leaders use to describe its political alliance with other parties.

“Realising that PKR has contravened many conditions of our political cooperation, the ulama wing assembly agrees that cooperation with PKR be terminated subject to the Syura Council’s decision on the matter,” read the motion.

Among others, PAS said PKR had gone against its agreement and did not respect PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s private members’ bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

The motion by the Ulama faction will most likely be passed at the PAS muktamar in Alor Setar, which runs until May 1.

Saifuddin said he would not be surprised if the motion was adopted today, but expressed disappointment over the attacks against Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also PKR deputy president.

PAS remains part of the Selangor government, despite refusing to join PKR and DAP, which also make up the state administration, in an electoral pact for the next polls.

The three PAS excos in Selangor are Iskandar Abdul Samad, Zaidy Abdul Talib and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.
