PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Tony Pua was barred from entering Sabah this afternoon, the first time the Petaling Jaya Utara MP has been prohibited from entering the East Malaysian state.

Quoting Sabah DAP publicity secretary Phoong Jin Zhe, The Borneo Post said Pua was denied entry upon his arrival at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) at 12.45pm.

Pua was reportedly accompanied by Sabah DAP chairman Stephen Wong, who confirmed that Pua had never been denied entry into Sabah before.

According to The Borneo Post, Pua was escorted onto an aircraft bound for Kuala Lumpur at 2pm.

Pua was previously banned from travelling overseas in 2015. He had been slated for a flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Yogyakarta on July 22, 2015. However, he said he was prevented from leaving despite his passport being valid until April 23, 2020.

Responding to news that Pua had been prohibited from entering Sabah today, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said she had recently accompanied him to the state for a series of party programmes.

“Tony Pua and I just went to Sabah in March for a series of party programs. Who can imagine that he is being barred from entry today?

“Why why why? Is it because he is going there for 1MDB forum this time?” she wrote in a Facebook post.
