ALOR SETAR:
PAS’ Dewan Ulama today called for a re-investigation of the 1MDB scandal so that those who committed wrongdoings will be punished accordingly.

Its head, Mahfodz Mohamed, said the demand was aimed at resolving the issue of the loss of money belonging to the nation and to answer the public’s questions.

He said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Razak must get rid of the self-denial syndrome in which it was trapped.

Mocking 1MDB as “Satu Malaysia Dalam Bahaya” (One Malaysia Under Threat), he said investors as well as Malaysians were losing confidence in the ability of the government to tackle the crisis.

“Investigations are urgently necessary so that those who have committed offences can be prosecuted and punished if found guilty,” he said in his keynote address at the PAS Dewan Ulama muktamar at Sekolah Rendah Islam Darul Ulum here.

He pointed out that the 1MDB case involved usury which was a practice prohibited in Islam.

“Because of usury, the Umno and BN government is courting conflict with Allah.”

The Dewan Ulama muktamar was opened by Ahmad Yaakob, the deputy mursyidul am (spiritual leader) and Kelantan menteri besar.
