“PAS Youth can help realise the PAS president’s goal of winning 40 parliamentary seats and rule five states with PAS Youth’s commitment to place more young candidates and win 60% of the youth votes in every seat PAS stands in,” he said in his opening address at the PAS Youth Muktamar in Kota Sarang Semut today.
The outgoing youth chief, who will hand over the reins to Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi – the son of PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang – didn’t however specify the five states.
Later on, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who officiated the youth wing’s gathering, said the five states were Kelantan, Kedah, Pahang, Terengganu and Selangor.
Previously, after GE12, PAS ruled Kedah before the Barisan Nasional won the state back in GE13. It has also ruled Terengganu in the past.
PAS, which has been ruling Kelantan since 1990, is also part of the Selangor government, led by PKR.
A recent survey by the PKR-linked Invoke Malaysia found that PAS would receive the lowest votes from Malay voters in three-cornered fights.
In his speech, Nik Abduh said if PAS came to power, it could push for more shariah enactments.
He also highlighted what he said were the four main “crises” in the country: corruption, rising cost of living, social issues and the quality of education, and the possible fallout from tensions between China and the United States.
“More mega and strategic projects are being awarded to China companies, exposing Malaysia to the risk of geopolitical clashes between China and the United States,” he claimed.
