JOHOR BAHRU: The remand order for the assistant warden of a private religious school has been extended for another three days to facilitate the probe into a beating case involving an 11-year-old tahfiz student.

Kota Tinggi district police chief ACP Rahmat Othman said the remand of the 29-year-old man, which will end today, has been extended from tomorrow until Saturday.

The man was arrested last Saturday at his home in Felda Lok Heng Barat, Kota Tinggi, following a police report lodged on April 18 by the mother of a student who was allegedly beaten with a rubber water hose until his legs had to be amputated.

The student, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, is now in critical condition at Hospital Sultan Ismail here.

He is in danger of losing his right arm at the elbow due to infection, but the surgery has been postponed due to his unstable heart condition.
