This follows a report saying Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Jauhar’s (MTAJ) principal Mohammad Afdhaluddin Ismail had declined to say anything about the incident when FMT approached him at Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) today.
The student, Mohamad Thaqif Amin, 11, was admitted to Hospital Sultan Ismail here last week after he was allegedly beaten by a school hostel assistant warden. The man has been remanded by police for investigations.
The boy’s legs were amputated subsequently after doctors discovered they had been infected.
In a statement, Afdhaluddin said the reason he refused to comment immediately was because the school did not want to interfere with police investigations or add to Thaqif’s family’s emotional burden.
“Our main priority now is Thaqif and his family and though we are undergoing this demanding test, Thaqif and his family feel it even more.
“Therefore, in order to give room for the investigations to be carried out, MTAJ has made the decision to continue giving moral support and to ensure the good relations between the school and both of Thaqif’s parents continue.”
In his statement, Afdhaluddin also said the school was giving its cooperation to the police, religious department and other authorities handling Thaqif’s case.
“We are taking responsibility and are giving due respect to the family by not answering any allegations, even if it tarnishes MTAJ’s good reputation.”
Afdhaluddin said a press conference will be held as soon as the police and medical team handling Thaqif’s case reach their conclusions.
