Raja Zarith arrived at Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) at 12 noon and spent about half an hour with Thaqif.

She was accompanied by Johor health and environment exco Ayub Rahmat.

On Saturday, Thaqif slipped into a coma after both his legs were amputated by HSI doctors in Johor Bahru the day before in a desperate bid to prevent infection to tissues and blood cells in his body.

The boy had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier after experiencing pain in his legs for two weeks following canings and beatings, allegedly by an assistant warden of the tahfiz school in Kampung Lukut, Kota Tinggi that he attends.

Soon after Thaqif fell into a coma, doctors said his arm had also turned necrotic.

The boy’s mother Felda Wani Ahmad said her son had enrolled in the tahfiz school on Jan 27 and was very happy there initially.

“But of late, he wanted me to remove him from the school and said that he and his friend were often caned by the assistant warden.”

The assistant warden in question is currently under remand as police investigate the case.

Reports said the 29-year-old has a previous criminal record and was convicted for theft and jailed for 30 months about three years ago.

Felda Wani said she decided to remove her son from the school on March 31.

Earlier today, it was reported that the 11-year-old had written about his repeated abuse in his diary, which was found by family members while he was in hospital.
