This was the latest update on the boy, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, who is alleged to have been abused by an assistant warden at the “tahfiz” school in Kampung Lukut that he attends.
According to his aunt Dzuraidah Ahmad, the boy’s right arm which had shown some sign of recovery on Sunday had turned black again, a symptom of it being necrotic. The boy’s legs were amputated on Friday for the same reason.
Previously, doctors at Hospital Sultanah Aminah told the family that Thafiq was being treated with blood-thinning medication to address the infection and blood clots in his right arm and left shoulder, respectively.
The hospital is expected to inform his family by 8pm tonight if the right arm needs to be amputated as well.
“We pray for his recovery and are ready should the doctor decide that an amputation is needed to save his life,” she told reporters who had gathered at the hospital earlier today.
According to his aunt, doctors said the amputation, if any, would be made in the forearm, just below the elbow.
On the bright side, Dzuraidah, 38, said the blood clot in the boy’s left shoulder was starting to clear following the treatment.
Thafiq’s tragic story first came to light on Sunday when it was reported that he had slipped into a coma after both his legs were amputated by doctors in a desperate bid to prevent an infection to tissues and blood cells in his body.
The boy had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier after experiencing pain in his legs for two weeks following the caning and beatings he suffered while at the religious school.
The assistant warden who is alleged to have carried out the beatings is now under arrest and in remand until Wednesday as police investigate the case.
