Amanah: Nevermind what Kamarulazman says, PH will move on

Ex-PPBM leader can say anything he wants about his former party, Pakatan Harapan won't be affected by it, says Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.

KUALA LUMPUR: Kamarulazman Habibur Rahman has the right to say anything he wants about his former party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), but the opposition will not be affected by it.

This is because his resignation from PPBM is a matter that the party should handle internally, said Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.

“Pakatan Harapan (PH) will carry on moving forward to be ready for the general election that is coming up. What he did yesterday has nothing to do with us,” Salahuddin told a press conference at the Amanah headquarters here today.

Kamarulazman, who is one of PPBM’s seven founding members, yesterday announced his resignation, claiming that former Umno members who joined PPBM had brought with them negative attitudes from their old party.

These include the inclination to jostle for positions at the expense of their new party’s interests and without considering the people’s welfare, he had said.

He also talked about his plan to revive the inactive group of rebel Umno branch chiefs (Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia, or GKCM), and to go on a nationwide tour to explain the current political situation, including that which had affected PPBM.

Asked if he worries that Kamarulazman’s criticisms about PPBM’s internal matters would affect the opposition’s chances in the next general election, Salahuddin said PH has bigger agendas to concern itself with.

“We cannot totally rely on what he said. Once he left the party, he can say anything under the sun.

“It is his right to propagate, or to tell the public what he wants to say (about PPBM), but we won’t be affected by it.

“And we still have our own agendas to discuss, such as Buku Jingga 2.0.”

Buku Jingga is a collection of the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat’s 13th general election manifesto. Salahuddin had in the past, mooted for the book to be improvised, improved, and adapted for PH’s new composition.

He said based on his own experience, Buku Jingga was a big hit among the public and the lawmakers, as it was extensively debated “in and outside of Parliament”.

“I, as one of the leaders of Amanah and members of the PH presidential council, believe this is something that the public has been waiting for. They want to know what we plan to do when we become the government,” Salahuddin said.

He added that one of the reform agendas he had proposed to be included in the Buku Jingga, was to empower Parliament with the right to impeach both state and federal leaders.

He also proposed for a better process to either elect or appoint the heads of national agencies such as the police, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

“These are the changes the public are waiting for. So when PH takes over Putrajaya, there will be laws and regulations to combat any abuse of power.”
