State Health, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Roslee Daud said the proposal by Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut (PAS-Wakaf Mempelam) needed a detailed study before it could be implemented.
“He (Wahid) said the state government must take firmer action to prevent secondary school students from taking drugs and we will look into the proposal,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Terengganu state legislative assembly sitting here today.
Wahid said that it would be difficult for drug addicts to get supplies if they were sent for rehabilitation on an inaccessible island.
On another issue, state Infrastructure, Public Utilities, Energy and Green Technology Committee chairman Rosli Othman said Terengganu did not intend to make the “Ceiba Chodatii” giant tree as an icon or symbol for the new Kuala Nerus township.
He said the tree was donated by the main contractor of the new township for landscaping purposes and to make it a unique attraction in Kuala Nerus.
He was replying to a supplementary oral question from Azan Ismail (PKR-Bandar) who wanted to know if claims in social media that the tree would be made into the icon of Kuala Nerus, was true.
Earlier, Rosli said that the overall development cost of the Kuala Nerus new township was RM600 million and so far the state government had spent RM200 million on it.
Its construction began in December 2015 and is expected to be completed in December 2020.
According to the current project development report, the administrative buildings are expected to be ready for occupation by December 2018.
