According to a report in The Star which quoted court documents, Mustafa, who has a Datuk title, was said to have self-administered a methamphetamine-type drug at the narcotics department there at 6pm on Aug 1.

The charges against him are under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which can also be prosecuted under Section 15(1)(b), read together under Section 38B of the same act, the report said.

If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to two years, fined up to RM5,000, or both. He could also face two years under observation.

Mustafa, 57, is Bakri Umno division vice-chief. He was represented by Salmi Hamdan Sabran, while Shazreen Nadia Saaban prosecuted, the report said.

His plea was recorded before magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh yesterday.

According to the daily, the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh granted him bail of RM2,000 with one surety and scheduled April 27 for re-mention.
