The Star said Imam Wahyudin Karjono, 21, and Jonius Indie @ Jahali, 24, were also handed an additional 10-year sentence each for giving support to the militant group Islamic State (IS).
The two were said to have committed the offence at the Movida nightclub at IOI Boulevard, Puchong, at 2am on June 28.
According to The Star, they faced eight charges under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, and one charge under Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavy Penalties) Act 1971 for using a hand grenade to commit a crime.
They also faced a charge under Section 130(c)(1)(b) of the Penal Code for committing terrorist acts, the report said.
The Star added that Jonius was also charged in a separate court under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Court for committing terrorist acts.
Police had previously confirmed the grenade blast as the first successful IS attack in Malaysia.
High Court judicial commissioner Nordin Hassan made the decision today and ordered both jail terms to run concurrently, The Star said.
According to a report by ChannelNews Asia, the judge said the maximum jail term was meant to serve as a deterrent.
“May the message be loud and clear to their IS friends and supporters – despite their young age and background, Jonius and Iman committed a terror act by hurling hand grenades and creating havoc in the city,” he was quoted as saying.
