PAS claims party flags removed due to CM’s function

Bagan PAS division denies the flags were put up to provoke DAP but to mark its annual general meeting.

GEORGE TOWN:
A PAS division in Butterworth has claimed the party flags it put up were taken down by the local authorities, apparently because they were put up close to where the Penang chief minister was holding a function.

Bagan PAS Youth information chief Muhd Hafiz Ilyas said dozens of PAS flags, which were put up near Kampung Benggali to mark the division’s 21st annual general meeting, were taken down yesterday.

“It so happened that our annual general meeting was on the same day as the chief minister’s function near our area.

“The PAS flags were not placed there to provoke anyone,” Hafiz said.

“The question is why did the local authorities take down the flags before the CM’s function?

“A telephone conversation with the higher-ups of the local authorities also showed that the flags were brought down due to the CM’s function.

“This goes to show that DAP is just like BN or Umno, who are perturbed by the flags of PAS,” he said in a statement today.

Hafiz said the flags were eventually returned to them by the local authorities.
