PETALING JAYA:
Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has released the body of Kim Jong Nam for repatriation to his family, according to a report by TheSun.

The daily said arrangements were believed to have been made between Wisma Putra and the family, who are reportedly planning to receive the body in Macau by tomorrow.

This follows reports yesterday that Jong Nam’s body had been taken out of HKL’s National Forensic Institute here for what was believed to be “religious rites”.

A source told the New Straits Times that the remains were transported in a white Toyota Vellfire to Cheras at about 2pm.

It was unclear if the body was cremated, buried or returned to the HKL mortuary afterwards, the newspaper said then.

TheSun however, reported that the body was believed to have been taken to a funeral parlour before being prepared for repatriation.

Security at HKL was subsequently relaxed, media reports said. National news agency Bernama added that the main door at the National Forensic Institute was left ajar, with people allowed to go in and out.

Jong Nam’s body was taken for embalmment on March 12. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had at the time said that it was done to preserve the remains from further decomposition.

Previous reports said Jong Nam’s family had expressed their wish for the Malaysian government to take care of his remains.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Hilmi Yahaya had also said that the body could be buried in Malaysia if it was not claimed by Jong Nam’s next of kin.

Jong Nam, the elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was killed in an attack at Malaysia’s low-cost carrier airport, klia2, on the morning of Feb 13. He was scheduled to take a flight to Macau later that morning.

Two women, a Vietnamese and an Indonesian, who allegedly wiped his face with a substance identified from an autopsy as the banned deadly VX nerve agent, were charged with murder on March 1.

Jong Nam died within 20 minutes of the attack.

Four other male suspects, all North Korean, fled the country on the same day of the murder. They have been identified as Ri Ji Hyon, Hong Song Hac, O Jong Gil and Ri Jae Nam.

Two other North Korean suspects, Hyon Kwang Song, who is the second secretary with the embassy in Kuala Lumpur, and Air Koryo employee, Kim Uk Il, are also wanted by police to help in the investigations.
