Saying that she never thought that any Umno politician would ever sink to this level of desperation, Syerleena added that it once again proves how morally bankrupt the main party in the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition has become.
“It’s shocking and appalling how he is encouraging Malaysians to express bigotry and sheer hatred in its most despicable form.
“Offering monetary rewards for such a vile ‘contest’, the whole idea and context of which is in itself seditious.
“Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if the tables were turned? If the opposition parties were the ones initiating such a contest?” Syerleena asked.
Yesterday, Annuar intensified his public spat with Lim by offering a RM10,000 prize for an essay-writing competition to prove that the DAP parliamentary leader is racist, anti-Islam and a dictator.
The Ketereh MP said the article must carry the title: “Adakah benar Lim Kit Siang seorang rasis, anti Islam dan 51 tahun diktator?” (Is it true that Lim Kit Siang is racist, anti-Islam and a 51-year-old dictator?).
He asked for the essays to be submitted to his office at PWTC by May 30.
Syerleena, who serves as a councillor in the Penang City Council, said it was common knowledge that Umno always claimed DAP, and especially Lim Kit Siang, was the nation’s public enemy.
“This is fear mongering on steroids. It is expected because Umno is aware that their days are numbered.
“Racism and hate has absolutely no place in our society but yet, these are the two factors that keep Umno afloat,” she said, adding that Malaysians must be prepared to see more such absurdities and comical suggestions from Umno and their leaders as the next general election (GE14) looms closer.
Syerleena said that it is another example of Umno’s inability to debate on policies and provide the solutions that are needed to mend our failing economy.
“Neither are they capable of addressing pressing issues, such as education, healthcare and the rising cost of living. It is as if their only theme or objective is to demonise DAP and almost nothing else.
“This type of dirty politics truly insults the intelligence of Malaysians.
“These essays, articles, videoblogs, etc (if people even do submit them) will provide absolutely no evidence whatsoever and nothing substantial to support Annuar Musa’s past remarks (about Lim Kit Siang),” Syerleena said.
